Ets. Jeanne Claverie

Paris (FRA)

return to France index

Jeanne Claverie was a Parisian lighter designer and business woman active after World War 2. Though her name is unknown to many collectors, Claverie's designs will be familiar to connoisseurs of French lighters. Most notably, she designed the Vulcano lift arm in 1945, the Vulc'Auto in 1947, and Junior lift arm (made famous by Drago) in 1952.

Not only a designer, Claverie's lighters were manufactured by her factory in Paris. In addition to producing lighters with her own branding, the Claverie factory also manufactured lighters for several other companies including Drago, G.E.Mardini and Arthus Bertrand. Collectors often mistakenly believe these companies produced lighters in-house but they were actually selling lighters manufactured by Claverie. (EB)
