Girl Of The Hour

return to Fay Mfg. index

Fay's "Girl Of The Hour" are dual-use table lighters with built-in clocks. Trademarked in 1929 by Henry Schiff, at least two variations of the "Girl Of The Hour" were produced. Both variations were produced from a die-cast alloy and depict a high-relief female nude perched on the clock face with an area for imprinting and manual lighter mechanism. The tall version uses the earlier Schiff lift arm design with exposed sparking wheel; the female figure is posed with one hand on the clock and the other under the imprint area. The shorter version uses the Schiff lift arm with enclosed wheel and the figure is posed with both hands holding the imprint area. Several clock face styles were uses. The clocks were likely produced by Fay or one of Schiff's other companies. (EB)
