Varaflame Design-A-Lighter & Convert-A-Lighter

return to butane table lighter index

Ronson likely introduced these make-your-own Varaflame kits in the early 1960s and offered variations into the early 1970s. The Design-A-Lighter is advertised in an undated Ronson catalog that's probably from 1963. This version included a round wood temporary base. Using the same concept, the Varaflame Convert-A-Lighter is shown in a later undated Ronson catalog that's possibly from 1970. It included a square, laminate wood base. The Design-A-Lighter and Convert-A-Lighter kits were both offered with gold plate or chrome plate fitment options and assigned unique model numbers. (GN & EB)
