R.Blackinton & Company was a co-partnership established in 1862 by Roswell Blackinton, Walter Ballou, and Thomas Mann. The factory originally produced book clasps, including clasps for Bibles carried by soldiers during the Civil War. It evolved into “a full silver house that also specialized in goldsmithing, engraving, enameling, metal spinning, and more,” according to the company website.
