Gaston Gaubert

Ben-Hur pocket lighters

return to Gaubert index

Patented in 1931, Gaston Gaubert produced semi and full automatic versions of their Ben-Hur pocket lighters. Le Briquet Automatique states both models were produced from 1933 until 1935. The full automatic Ben-Hur is more commonly seen, both versions are rare to find outside of France. All examples shown here have French tax plates affixed for domestic sale. At least two body shapes were offered with engine-turned, colorful celluloid and factory-engraved advertising finishes. (EB)
