These lift arm-type lighters are typically unbranded and simply marked "Made In USA". Typically made from folded steel, these were economy lighters in their era. They were produced cheaply and affordable priced for the average consumer. Larry Tolkin told me he saw packaging that identified S.O. Bigney as their manufacturer; I've been unable to independently verify his identification thus far.

I believe these lighters were first produced in the mid-to-late 1930s and variations were in production into the 1950s. The "Girey" brand name usually only appears on original packaging. Pocket models were produced in at least three sizes, smoking sets were offered with a matched cigarette case. Table versions use the standard size Girey pocket lighter with a removable tapered base that attaches via the threaded fuel screw opening. Golden Glow Liters and an undocumented lift arm variation with enclosed spark wheel were also produced. (EB)
